Hi Team! My name is Kathy Jacobs and I am from Milton, Pennsylvania, a small town in Central PA. I recently finished up my freshman year at Lycoming College, which is located in Williamsport PA- the home of the Little League World Series for any baseball fans. There, I am majoring in Biology and minoring in Chemistry on the pre-med track. My goal is to be a pediatrician. At school, I worked as a lab assistant for one of my professors. At home, I work as a waitress at a seasonal restaurant called the Fence Drive-In.
I played tennis in high school and continued to play at college. During my free time, I like scrapbooking and stamping, anything crafty. In high school, I was the editor of the school newspaper and yearbook and loved it! In college, I was also in yearbook. My college only has one Christian organization, and not everyone likes it, so a group of five students, including me, are trying to start a Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU). The club should get approved while we are in Guatemala, so that will be really cool! I am really looking forward to seeing what God does with CRU. I am a member of the First Baptist Church in Milton. There, I am involved in the children’s ministry. I was also an Upward basketball coach for six years.
Things that make me unique... Hmmm. Well for one, I am allergic to the fuzzy skin on peaches. I HATE fish gills and the feeling of cotton balls. I know, I know, sounds really silly. :)
Likes and Dislikes: I’m a big fan of Greys Anatomy, Brothers and Sisters, and pretty much anything on TLC. I hate scary movies... I can’t even watch the previews! Oh, and I don’t like hot foods.
I have gone on three mission trips in the past with my church, all through AIM. In 2007, I went to Kansas City, MO. The following year I went to Matamoros, Mexico. Last year, I went to Appalachia, TN. All of the trips were one week.
The Nit N’ Gritty: I am excited to see a culture and a way of life that is foreign to me now. I am looking forward to strengthening my faith and putting my whole trust in God. And finally, I am looking forward to working and helping! Being away for over three months makes me a little nervous. I haven’t really ever gotten homesick, but it is a little concern. I am a little worried about silly things, like bathrooms. Stupid, I know. I really feel that God is going to teach me so much on this trip. I need to be away from all things old and put my complete focus on God, and I think this trip will allow me to do that.
I look forward to meeting you all and reading your bios!
Kathy
